The Sheriff’s Office is always accepting applications for part-time Corrections Officers.

The Sheriff’s Office may advertise job openings, when available, by at least two or more of the methods listed below.

  • Through the Missouri Sheriff’s Association.
  • By posting on the Adair County Government website.
  • By posting on the Sheriff’s Office community kiosks.

As a full-time employee of Adair County, you are eligible for benefits to include, but not limited to, health and dental insurance, life insurance, retirement benefits, holiday and sick days.

The following are considered to be general minimum qualifications for any position within the Sheriff’s Office.

  • Be a United States Citizen.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid Missouri Driver’s License and have a good driving record.
  • Be computer literate and able to type 25 wpm.
  • Must possess a certified copy of a Birth Certificate.
  • Must possess a Social Security card.
  • May not have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • No felony convictions, arrests or other law enforcement interaction involving perjury, false statements, or domestic violence.
  • Will undergo criminal records check which includes fingerprints.
  • Will undergo drug screening.

Below are specific minimum qualifications for the listed position.

Corrections Officer:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be willing to work various shifts and flexible hours, to include holidays and weekends.

Deputy Sheriff:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be P.O.S.T. certified.
  • Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation and polygraph examination.
  • Be willing to work various shifts and flexible hours, to include holidays and weekends.
  • Must be willing to be on-call and/or subject to re-call.
  • Must successfully pass a medical and psychological screening.
  • Must be willing to establish residency in Adair County.
  • The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
    • 60 semester hours / 90 quarter hours of study or equivalent Associates Degree from an accredited college, university, community college, or
    • Prior active duty U.S. Military service, or
    • Prior experience as a law enforcement officer.

Administrative support position requirements in regards to education, skills and experience may vary according to which position may be open.

The application form requires Microsoft Word 2007 or higher to open.  If you do not have access to Microsoft Word, you may go the Missouri Career Center where computers with the required systems are available for your use.

Please note the below instructions:

  • Sign and date the completed application in the “Applicant’s Certification” section.
  • The “Authorization for Release of Information” must be notarized. Do not sign this document unless you are in the presence of a Notary. The Sheriff’s Office can in most cases provide notary service during normal weekday hours or you may use a Notary of your choice.
