Road and Bridge Crew Member-Full Time Position

Adair County is currently seeking a reliable individual for the Road & Bridge Department. Applicants must be 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED and a valid Missouri driver’s license.

Selected applicant must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal history check, and obtain a CDL “A” within three (3) months of employment.

The primary job duties include the following:
  • Hauling and spreading rock
  • Operates truck, trailers, and related equipment for hauling and dumping maintenance and repair materials, including rock, dirt, culvert pipes, road equipment, etc.
  • Sets out temporary road signs, traffic cones, and barricades at work sites.
  • Works on brush removal crews. Trims trees, shrubs, and other plants; cuts, stacks, and chips brush; hauls brush.
  • Performs minor servicing, adjustment and maintenance on vehicles and equipment; checks levels and replaces fluids; lubricates equipment; reports operating and repair problems to equipment shop supervisor or mechanics.
  • Serves as valuable crew member for road maintenance and repair activities; will receive on-the-job training and coaching on vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance; will maintain safe, efficient and appropriate road maintenance and repair techniques; ensures work is completed in conformance with standard County specifications; will ensure to communicate with supervisor citizen concerns and complaints at job site
  • Must be willing to work in inclement weather conditions, performing overtime as needed to keep County roads safe for citizens
Other Duties include:
  • Performing manual labor at times, including digging ditches; cleaning and installing culverts; removing debris from roadway and shoulders; loading and unloading tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Operates graders to smooth and level gravel roadways, remove slides and contour roadways; operates chip spreader to spread rock chips for road bed
  • Other duties as assigned
