The Sheriff’s Office has a continuing goal of reducing the potential for residential burglaries while the owners/residents are away for extended periods of time. As an objective to accomplish this goal, the Sheriff’s Office will attempt to conduct periodic checks of residences that have been reported to us as being vacant while the owners/residents are away. These checks are conducted as staffing and workload permits.
If you would like to have your residence placed on our checklist, please click on the below link and print off a copy of our Vacation House Check Request form. Please complete the form and either mail the form to our address above or you may drop it off in person at the Sheriff’s Office.
As you prepare for your vacation please take note of some basic safety measures that you and your family can take.
- Make an itinerary of your trip, to include emergency phone numbers, and give it to a relative or a trusted friend/neighbor.
- If you normally keep house keys in hidden areas outside of your home, retrieve these keys and secure them while you are away.
- Have your mail and newspaper delivery stopped while you are away. If this can’t be done, arrange for a relative, friend or neighbor to pick up these items for you.
While traveling, be aware of your surroundings and use well traveled roads and stick to public areas.
